My understanding of love is an intense feeling of deep affection. There are different types of love and love can be expressed in several ways.

According to the Greek findings there are eight types of love:

  • Agape: universal love such as love for strangers and nature. Love that accepts, forgives and believe for the greater good.
  • Eros: is sexual or passionate love. Solely based on desire, physical attraction and appearance as well as romance.
  • Philia: love between friendships which is built on companionship, dependability and trust.
  • Storge: love between siblings, parents and their children.
  • Ludus: uncommitted or playful love focused on thrill and fun.
  • Pragma: practical loved based on reason or duty
  • Mania: obsessive love, full of extreme reactions like insecurity, jealousy, obsession, complusion and unrealistic demands.
  • Philautia: self love.

The act of love is a very serious subject for me whether it be myself, my family or strangers. I will now share ways in which I express love using a few of the types of love listed above:

Philautia: I will treat myself to a much needed vacation and while on vacation engage in a new activity which peaks my interests.

Storge: I will gift my mom with an item that she mentions she needs and treat her to a spa for relaxation since she is constantly on the go.

Agape: I can greet a stranger and have casual conversation with them regarding their head space on the current virus situation.
