It is only by God’s grace that my grandpa was blessed to see his 100th year on planet earth. Thank you Father for your grace and mercy. Happy Happy birthday dear daddy!! This article is a tribute to you, it will allow others to have a window view of the authentic you from your grand daughter’s eyes.
Martin Haynes Louis Cyril is the oldest son of his two brothers. He was married to my grandma Mona Cyril for 69 years and had ten children. He has outlived his wife and two brothers to this present day. Mr. Cyril as commonly known by most is the grand father of twenty five children. Daddy has an authoritative tone so no matter what the subject; he commands your attention. He is a proud man and is not shy about relaying his war and life experiences; as his granddaughter I feel like after hearing numerous stories I was a passenger on his many journeys.
Daddy is a strict disciplinary and raised his family with military style rules and regulations. He is a very loving and kind man however he will reprimand you in a hot second once you step out of line or do something that he is not in favor of. I have heard plenty of stories from my mom and aunts about the countless ordeals they experience with daddy even while they had become responsible adults capable of making wise decisions. In times when my aunts, uncles and mom had misbehaved in their younger days; my grandma who was a submissive wife had a way of waiting until daddy got home and allowed him to handle all the discipling. Usually a nightmare situation for all those on the wrong side of the fence.
Mr. Cyril is a veteran, he served in the St. Lucia Police Force then moved onto the St. Lucia Fire Service and later became Chief of Fire Service. In the capacity of Chief he invited women to join the Fire Service in 1980. Ten ladies were recruited and my mom, his daughter Gloria Cyril was part of these ten ladies. He then broke the record by being the first chief to partake in long jump races at age 80 years and received gold medals on two separate occasions. Proud moment for him and the family. Cheers to you daddy!
Daddy is an active, vibrant, ambitious, hardworking and outgoing man. He was a devoted husband and reliable father, also a responsible provider and ensured no one lacked for anything. He has been very involved in community groups, advisory boards and all related dignitary events. He is also a very talented dancer, he was part of a quadrille dance group for many years and all the ladies were in waiting to get a chance to dance with him.
Funny story as a child growing up I spent a lot of time with him and momma, so there were times when I would asked him for some pocket cash; oh Lord I would have to endured a two hour story from him about whatever he felt like discussing before I would get ten dollars. I know my other cousins can relate; cause he did it to everyone.
Daddy we love you and we are so proud of all your accomplishments. Thank you being a role model to us all. Happy Happy birthday to you!! Hip hip hooray…We pray for many more years to come.
