Purpose of the trip;
I was graced with an opportunity to complete an internship with a reputable hotel as part of the University credits for my bachelor’s degree program. And I had a dream of graduating from that program since I was going to be there; during the main campus, University slated graduation dates.
The internship experience was a learning curve filled with good, bad, and indifferent. Overall I appreciated all the transitions that came along with that experience. And my dream of graduating came true by way of supernatural intervention aka miracle.
History of Jamaica;
Jamaica is the third-largest island in the Caribbean Sea, after Cuba and Hispaniola. The capital is Kingston and its official language is English. Jamaica’s population is 2,726,000 and the total area is 10,991. Interior mountains and plateaus cover most of the country’s length. Jamaica is filled with rich culture and friendly natives. Along with picturesque beaches and mouth-watering cuisine.
Why was this trip lit?
This trip was sentimental to me first because I was able to graduate there. The obstacles and low valleys I experienced to finally gain acceptance to this significant event was nothing short of a miracle.
Secondly; a long time school friend resides there and she made me feel at home; no matter what challenges I faced after speaking to her or spending time with her the load was always lighter! Janella Precious, you are indeed a root friend and I love you dearly.
Thirdly although I was solely there for the internship I was able to explore the country like I was on vacation. I was enamored by the culture and similarities to my country that from time to time I visualized myself making a comfortable life in Jamaica.
Fourthly the hospitality of the locals was so refreshing; I never felt like a visitor. They were warm, animated, and engaging all the time and treated me like family.
Fifthly the country is so beautiful; melting pot of activities for all ages and interests; so easy to get around – public transportation is reliable and affordable and the vibrant lifestyle is a mix of modern and vintage.
Must see sights in Jamaica;
- Dunn’s River
- Bob Marley Museum
- Rick’s Cafe
- Port Royal Underwater
- Luminous Lagoon
- Blue Hole
- Floyd’s Pelican Bar
Local lingo sounds like;
- Small up yuhself: in crowded buses or taxi make room for others
- Mi soon come: I will be right back
- Weh yuh ah seh: what are you saying?
- Inna di Morrows: saying goodbye see you later
- Wah Gwaan: how are you doing?
- Likkle more: see you later then
There you have my lit trip. Hope you enjoyed the article and can use some of the information when your travel leads you to that area. Thank you kindly for your support and please share your feedback. Bless up.
