The DMV area was never at the top of my travel bucket list however I have visited briefly to enjoy carnival (West Indian parade) many moons ago. During those trips I was unable to explore the city because my itinerary was jammed packed with carnival related entertainment. So this visit happened because a fellow entrepreneur; after randomly purchasing items from her online store; we became fast friends but we never met in person. She resides in the DMV and suggested an upcoming Jazz event and we both agreed it would be a great opportunity to finally meet in person and enjoy the city.

Washington DC was discovered in July 16, 1790 and was established by the Constitution of United States to serve as the Nations capital. President George Washington was the one responsible for choosing the site along the Potomac and Anacostia rivers. The acronym DMV stands for Washington DC, Maryland and Virginia. Come on this exploration train with me and see what this vibrant cities have to offer; hope you enjoy. My top sites were as follows:

  • National Museum of Asia Art
  • National Museum of African American History and Culture
  • US Capitol
  • DC Waterfront
  • Georgetown
  • Eastern Market
  • Boulangerie Christophe (French Bakery)
  • Silver Spring Jazz Fest
  • Cava
  • Kao Thai Restaurant
  • National Habor
  • Cherry Blossom Festival

Oh my God was I pleasantly surprised at how diverse these cities were; the rich culture had me in awe and I was excited to do everything!! there was so much stuff to do and I only got to do just a few due to time constraints. I was only able to visit a few of my top picks and will definitely be back to complete it and add more. I have found a new love; the DMV area has risen to the top of my list and it will be a more frequent visit in the future.

Onto the main reason for the visit; meeting my ‘ghost’ colleague was indeed a pleasure and long overdue. She showcased her city very nicely and I was so impressed. We updated each other on current events and discussed some future trips. I was so grateful she mentioned the Jazz event, which propelled my visit and I am happy we finally met. Although we speak frequently via phone, we can stop referring to each other as ghosts lol. And the Silver Spring Jazz Fest was fire. There was some talented and famous performers that put on an amazing show. Jazz is one of my favorite genres and I was mesmerized by the melodious sounds.

Of all the trips I have taken this one definitely goes down in the book; as one of the best. Although short I had an amazing time and the DMV area holds a special place in my heart. If your travel journeys takes you to this area, please check out a couple of picks on my list and let me know how it goes. Thank you kindly beloveds for your continued love and support. I look forward to your comments and feedback. Love n Light
